All potential employees take part in a competence-based interview. This assesses a combination of skills, knowledge, behavior and personal qualities.
What will I be asked?
You will be asked a series of structured questions that relate to the prospective job. Each question looks for specific examples of how you have behaved in different situations. This information is gathered and your suitability for the role assessed.
Why interview in this way?
The questions asked are directly relevant to the competences needed to fulfill a particular role. This type of interview also ensures objectivity, structure and consistency.
Some examples:
To assess customer focus you could be asked: "Tell me about a time when a customer approached you with a problem?" |
To assess teamwork you could be asked: "Describe how you have made a contribution to a team you have worked in recently?" |
How can I prepare?
Reflect on the past |
Give examples You'll be expected to give examples of things you've done. If it happens to be something you did in a group, we'll be looking for you to articulate what you actually did. Your examples should be as recent as possible and for each questions asked we expect different examples to be given. |
Be yourself! Use the interview to talk freely and honestly about yourself and try and enjoy the experience. |
Ask questions There will be time in the interview for you to ask questions about the role for which you are being interviewed. Remember also that the interview is a good time for you to find out more about us too! |
